From A Tree To A Cross

From A Tree To A Cross

@Lynna & Jim Woolsey/Rick Lang

V1

We never met but I heard about the man

One called teacher or the Great I Am

He healed the deaf, and helped the blind to see

Walked on water at the Sea of Galilee

V2

He passed by and I couldn't pick Him out

Then Jesus preached with wisdom to the crowd

His enemies would have no more of this

Tried, convicted, sentenced Him to death

Chorus

There in the forest that mighty dogwood stood

Heavy and strong it made the perfect wood

Soldiers took it down and cut the branches off

By the time they were done the tree was a cross

V3

As He carried the cross and I bowed my head and wept

I didn't want to take part in His death

I looked away as that spear pierced His side

Blood ran down in a crimson tide

V4

Our two lives forever will entwine

Although no one will remember mine

I was the timber and He was the lamb

I was holding up the Savior of man

Chorus

From the tree to the cross on that hill I stood

Heavy and strong I made the perfect wood

The soldiers took me down and cut my branches off

By the time that they were done I was the cross
